Ragged Island is the largest and farthest of the chain of small cays. The name ‘ragged’ is derived from the ragged range of cays and rocks that forms the island. A string of tiny cays that link loosely to Long Island are a delicate garland of uninhabited islets resembling the smaller Exumas.This island is generally known as the Ragged island Chain but was originally called the Yumettas and later altered the Jumentos, 
Ragged island has a colorful history of smuggling , piracy and thwarted efforts to make it a productive part of the Bahamas.
